Yes, Holly, it's real. I was thrilled to find such a good, clear shot when I uploaded my photos that day. I love this gator's smile, and I love the juxtaposition of this dangerous animal resting among the pretty yellow flowers (weeds?).

Ticklebear, he's two interstate exits away--safe as long as the water doesn't get too high.

Just how far away were you from this Jurassic holdover when you took the photo?

Janet, it was probably about 15-20 feet away, but there was a chain-link fence between us. I poked my zoom lens through the fence to get this shot. In fact, it was probably the camera resting steadily against the fence that made this picture as sharp as it is.

good idea to rest it in the fence. I have trouble holding my camera steady, too. And I'm glad you weren't taking chances to get that shot!
